SyncLockStatus Improves SureSync Collaboration

The SureSync Collaboration Bundle with SyncLockStatus allows companies to implement a file sharing environment where:

  • Users cannot update the same file at the same time
  • Users are notified when a file is in use and who has the file opened
  • Users are notified when a file is closed and available with read-write access

Over the last several years, SPI responded to market demand by integrating “File Locking” into their SureSync application. The file locking functionality addresses a major issue with file synchronization products between remote sites which is file conflicts. File conflicts arise when a file was updated by multiple users in multiple locations, creating a dilemma of which changes take precedence. How can file conflicts be avoided?

File Locking prevents users from accessing the same file, regardless of where they are located. If a file is in use by one user in one location, another user attempting to access their local file copy would only be allowed access to a read-only copy. SureSync’s file locking solution eliminates file conflict messages.

The introduction of SyncLockStatus to the SureSync product mix provides end users much more transparency of the file sharing process. The application resides on each end users PC and when they attempt to open a file that is in use by another user, they are delivered a message which states the file is not available and allows them to open a read-only copy of that file. When the first user who opened the file closes it, users who have attempted to access that file will be notified that it is available for read-write access.

SyncLockStatus is available with the SureSync Collaboration Bundle. The SureSync Collaboration Bundle provides real-time file synchronization between sites and allows the files to be locked as they are open. The full SureSync product suite offers the ability to share files between sites, distribute data to remote machines, centralize backups, and improve data availability through redundant disk-to-disk mirroring & archiving.
