Introducing MigratePro

Built on the very powerful engine that has garnered SureSync much success, MigratePro fills multiple needs for managing and protecting shares within your network:

  • Migrate Shares, Share Permissions, & Data to New Hardware
  • Consolidate Shares on Multiple Servers to a Single Server
  • Automate Share Protection with Flexible Scheduling

Software Pursuits ConnectionClick the thumbnail to the left to see the MigratePro desktop. Much like SureSync, you can view individual jobs and schedules in the left-hand pane and modify multiple settings in the right-hand pane.

Within MigratePro, Relations are created which form the basic building block of your MigratePro migratation jobs. Under each relation, you can configure the root paths, retries for failed migration attempts, performance functionality, job access security and more.

Within each 'Relation', 'Rules' are configured to instruct MigratePro on how you would like the migration of your settings to be performed. The Rules described below are Migrate and Migrate Merge:

Migrate: This Rule type is responsible for performing data migrations from one server to another. This is the most commonly used Rule, but if you are migrating data from multiple sources to a single destination you should use the Migrate Merge Rule.

Migrate Merge: Designed to assist with the migration from multiple source directories into one destination.

As you can see by clicking the thumbnail above, there are several items within a Rule that you can modify. Within the screenshot, the Migrate Groups tab is currently highlighted in the right-hand pane of MigratePro. Below is some additional information about each tab associated with Rules:

General: Edit the Rule Type and specify which folders will be affected by the Rule selected.

Roots: Specify the source root path and destination(s).

File Masks: Allows you to include or exclude files by name or file type.

Dates: Allows you to filter the files to process by modification date ranges, which is useful if you only want to migrate data within a certain time period.

Attributes: Configure the Rule to include or exclude files based on various attributes, such as 'Normal' or 'Read-Only'.

Copy Security: Setting the values on this pane, instruct MigratePro to copy the NTFS Access Control Lists for the folders and files being migrated.

Migrate Shares: This option makes it easy to migrate file shares from one machine to another and allow your end users to access all resources that they were able to access on the source machine.

Migrate Users: MigratePro will copy local users to your new destination(s) when you check the box on this pane. MigratePro will then copy any local users and maintain the NTFS permission on the destination.

Migrate Groups: Copy Local Groups from your source machine to your destination and you can also set values to instruct MigratePro how to handle conflicts if the group already exists on the destination.

Migrate Options: MigratePro can also migrate the NTFS compression settings from source to destination.

Open Files: If this option is checked, MigratePro will still copy a file even if the source is open.

MigratePro also has very flexible scheduling options, so you can automate migration tasks to run during the off-hours. Additionally, you can utilize MigratePro to automate share protection to ensure your shares and settings are being preserved on a backup machine.
